A. Prof Richard Grills, raised in rural western Victoria, is an accomplished urologist with a diverse career. After training in Melbourne and Africa, he established West Coast Urology in Geelong. A. Prof Grills is a leader in urological surgery at Barwon Health, Head of Surgical Services at St John of God Hospital, and actively involved in medical education and training. He conducts research, leads surgical teams to Vanuatu, and presents at international meetings. A. prof Grills is a respected member of various urological associations, showcasing his commitment to advancing urological care globally.

Dr. Kathryn McLeod, a skilled Urological Surgeon, completed her training at the University of Adelaide in 2005 and obtained fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. She specialises in voiding dysfunction, neuro-urology, and female urology. Dr. McLeod practices at Geelong University Hospital, St John of God Specialist Centre, and Winchelsea. Committed to surgical education, she holds a Masters and is pursuing a PhD. Dr. McLeod serves on various boards, chairs educational committees, and is a proctor for Medtronic. Additionally, she holds a rank in the Standby Reserves of the Australian Defence Force.

Mr. Patrick Preece, a distinguished urologist, specialises in male sexual dysfunction and reconstructive genital surgery. With expertise in erectile dysfunction, penile implant surgery, and male urinary incontinence, he also manages general urological conditions. A Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, he completed a prestigious fellowship in andrology and genito-urethral reconstruction. Mr. Preece operates in Geelong and Colac. He is actively involved in both medical education and research and holds a Masters degree in Public Health.

The experienced nursing team at West Coast Urology is led by Teresa. These highly skilled urology nurses play a crucial role in patient care and education. Affiliated with St John of God Hospital, they assist with minor procedures, administer treatments, and provide valuable support to patients, ensuring a high standard of service. Teresa’s expertise, commitment and care, ensures our patients always feel well supported.

Mackenzie and Maddison are prized members of the West Coast Urology reception team. With the support of our Practice Manager, Samantha, they are the first point of contact for patient enquiries, both on the phone and in person.  

With the assistance of Linda, our accounts manager, our team has extensive knowledge of the practice and will help you with any queries in relation to appointments, billings, hospital bookings and any general enquiries you may have. They are extremely efficient and caring and will go out of their way to help you.

Brenda is the Executive Assistant to A. Prof Grills, Dr. McLeod and Mr. Preece. She commenced working with A.Prof Grills in 2003 and has worked in the medical sector for over 30 years.




Jenny will greet you when you arrive at our consulting rooms prior to your appointment. She will liaise with our Geelong based staff to arrange follow up appointments if required or to schedule any procedures that you may need – either locally in Hamilton or in Geelong

If you live in the Geelong or Colac region you will be referred to see Becky Hollows who is based in our rooms at West Coast Urology in the SJOG Specialist Centre.

Becky graduated as a physiotherapist in 1997, and specialises working in the area of continence and pelvic floor rehabilitation. Along with her physiotherapy qualifications, Becky has furthered her tertiary studies to increase her knowledge of pelvic floor rehabilitation. Those further qualifications include a postgraduate certificate in pelvic floor physiotherapy (University of Melbourne 2011). She works with A. Prof Grills, Dr McLeod and Mr Preece. Thorough assessment is a necessary part of learning pelvic floor exercises. The assessment involves discussion about your current general, bladder, bowel and sexual health.
